The lead guitarist of Pearl Jam Mike McCready has created the alternative history of Seattle... as a comic

Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready tells the mythic story of Seattle’s music scene in Farewell to Seasons

Seattle courses through the veins of Mike McCready. Although not born there, he came to the city early on and couldn't — and won't — shake it. A product of Roosevelt High School, there in Seattle, he has seen the city grow and change over the years. While he has left on tours and for other things, he always comes back. And now he's writing a history of Seattle's alternative music scene in Farewell to Seasons.

Oh yeah, he's also the lead guitarist and co-founder of Pearl Jam.

Mike McCready's Farewell to Seasons is an upcoming OGN he's been working on with writer Mark Sable and artist Sebastián Píriz for the musically-inclined Z2 Comics label.

"[Farewell to Seasons is] a story I’ve been developing for many years, inspired by the creativity, community, and chaos of the Seattle music scene," McCready says in the announcement. "Farewell to Seasons is a historical fantasy set in that world, and alongside the graphic novel there will also be a 'lost' rock opera connected to the story, featuring original music written from the perspective of David Williams, one of the main characters."

Farewell to Seasons will come in several formats, including a deluxe edition packaged with a companion rock opera of new and original songs by McCready written and performed as the comic's lead character, David Williams. For a time, these deluxe editions of Farewell to Seasons will be the only place you can get the music - sorry Spotify!

"Having been in the heart of the NW music scene as a journalist in the 1990s, I’ve wanted for years to work on a project that would reflect what it was actually like for the musicians and the fans when ‘the world came to Seattle," says Rantz A. Hoseley, musician/editor-in-chief of Z2 Comics. "I can say, without any hyperbole or exaggeration, that I feel like my entire creative life has led to me being involved with this book, and I feel so blessed to be a part of bringing Mike’s beautiful and poignant story to the world.”

Farewell to Seasons will be available in several formats, including:

  • 9" x 9" standard edition
  • A slip-cased oversized 12" x 12"  deluxe edition, with the companion album on Rain City Yellow vinyl
  • A Platinum package to include the 12" x 12" deluxe edition with the companion album Translucent Elliot Bay Green vinyl

All versions are available for pre-order now on Z2Comics.com, with the standard edition going on-sale in bookstores and comic shops on October 6.
