With the Bed Bath & Beyond franchise closing in 2023, I thought we'd never know what the "beyond" is - but now that they're in the beyond, we have found out: comics.

All jokes aside, a Michigan comic store has found a novel place to grow as it had outgrown its current space years ago: a former Bed Bath & Beyond location. Just a few weeks ago, the Muskegon, Michigan comic store Lange's Comics & Collectibles moved into its new 27,000-square-foot space - condensing what had been two comic shops it had in the Lakes Mall into one, as well as folding in its sister store a DVD & record store - into one giant store.

Although Lange's comic shop was originally located in an 800-square-foot storefront in Grand Haven, in 2015 it moved into the Lakes Mall - and took advantage of larger retailers pulling out of malls and they grew into it, at one point renting four units in the center. 

"I’ve always wanted to do a mega store, kind of a like Meijer, where between selection and price we have the best stuff on the planet," Lange's founder (and co-owner) Todd Lange tells MLive. "Malls are struggling, frankly, because the corporate model has failed. And it will continue to fail, but I think the opportunity for small businesses like us has changed.”
