Marvel is relaunching Iron Man in 2026 with longtime DC exclusive writer Joshua Williamson

After six months absent from the stands, Iron Man returns to solo star status in January 2026

Anyone paying attention to Marvel Comics’ publishing line in the past few months might have noticed something unexpected: an absence of an Iron Man series. As unlikely as it might seem, Marvel hasn’t had a solo Iron Man comic book in its line-up since July 2025 — but that’s going to change starting in early 2026.

Announced at New York Comic Con 2025, Iron Man will return to comic book stands in January 2026 in the Iron Man series from writer Joshua WIlliamson and artist Carmen Carnero.

"Our tagline for this book is that Tony Stark is the most dangerous weapon in the Marvel Universe," Joshua says during the Marvel's Next Big Thing panel at New York Comic Con 2025. "The armor is now what Tony built in that cave. Tony built Tony. He went in as a jerk, and he came out as a hero... and I was also wondering, what would happen if Tony went into that cave again? And someone else who's thinking that is Madame Masque."

While fans have been able to keep up with Tony Stark in the monthly Avengers comic book series, as well as appearances in One World Under Doom and other titles — and there will be echoes of a future Tony in the X-Men: Age of Revelation series Iron & Frost, launching October 15 — Iron Man as a solo hero has been surprisingly absent from the stands since July 23 2025, when Iron Man #10 brought the last series to a close with the final installment of the ‘Insurgent Iron Man’ storyline by Spencer Ackerman and Julius Ohta. Where is Tony Stark after the fall of Doctor Doom and the end of One World Under Doom? The answer is just months away.

Iron Man #1 will be released January 2026.

New York Comic Con 2025 continues through Sunday, October 12.
