First look at a New Mutants reunion as Dani Moonstar joins Magik (and her huge sword!) in her X-Men spin-off comic

Magik re-teams with Mirage as Illyana and Dani try to right past wrongs in the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Magik this July

Doing the right thing can come at a cost, as the X-Men’s Illyana Rasputin knows all too well. Readers of Marvel Comics’ Magik have seen Rasputin’s attempts to banish the demonic Liminal accidentally pushing someone close to her into a coma, but it turns out she’s got back-up to help fix that problem in the upcoming seventh issue of her solo series: her fellow New Mutants veteran, Dani Moonstar. And we’ve got an exclusive sneak peek at the issue for those who can’t wait to see the two back together again.

Magik #7, by Ashley Allen, Germán Peralta, and colorist Arthur Hesli, reunites the two best friends from the fan-favorite '80s comic book series New Mutants, which spun out of the perpetual hit Uncanny X-Men; both Illyana Rasputin and Dani Moonstar were members of the junior X-Men team (as Magik and Mirage, respectively; both have all but abandoned their codenames by this point in their careers), alongside future Avengers Cannonball and Sunspot, as well as Doug Ramsey, who has since become a villain at the heart of an upcoming X-Men event storyline under the name Revelation. (Marvel is already teasing ‘The Age of Revelation’ for October 2025.) Does that mean we should be paying even more attention to Illyana and Dani getting back together…? Time will tell…

For now, here’s a glimpse at what lies in wait in Magik #7:

Marvel’s official description of the issue goes like this: “NEW MUTANTS REUNITE! To save their friend, Magik and Mirage have no choice but to seek help from the order his ancestors founded. But will Illyana's new power make her a perfect recruit or a natural hellraiser? And how will former leader Mirage respond when Magik starts to take charge?”

Magik #7, featuring a cover from Pablo Villalobos, will be released digitally and in comic book stores July 9.
