Marvel Comics teases the end of the Ultimate Universe could set up the next generation of Avengers
Marvel is teasing an Ultimate Universe origin for the next Avengers in its core universe, coming this Summer

The Ultimate Universe may be ending in April, but its legacy will live on — not just in the mainstream Marvel Universe, but specifically in the next generation of Marvel’s biggest superteam, according to a new tease released by the publisher for this summer’s upcoming Armageddon comic book storyline. (No surprise, considering the sales success of Ultimate Endgame #1.)
In a press release promoting the April-releasing prelude issues to Armageddon (that’s Captain America issues 9 and 10, and Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon #3, in case you’re wondering), Marvel explicitly connected the Ultimate Universe with the future of the Marvel Universe, courtesy of events from the Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion miniseries that concluded in October 2025.
The latest description of the Armageddon (which may or may not be called Avengers: Armageddon when it officially launches in June) runs like this: “Armageddon picks up in the aftermath of One World Under Doom. With global tensions rising to determine the fate of Latveria, it’s up to Captain America and the all-new S.H.I.E.L.D. to prevent various groups from erupting into all-out war, including one with a startling connection to Doom’s legacy. Meanwhile, Wolverine investigates a mysterious new super soldier program, but is too late to stop them from creating a deadly new Weapon X. All this while origin boxes, brought over to the 616 from the new Ultimate Universe, begin to surface, giving rise to new heroes and ushering in the next era of Avengers…"
Note that last line.
This isn’t the first time that Marvel has explicitly mentioned that the Origin Boxes — literally boxes that contain the ability to replicate the origins of existing Marvel characters for new users — in connection with Armageddon; it is, however, the first time that Marvel has teased that they’ll be connected to “ushering in the next era of Avengers,” whatever that means. Should fans be expecting all-new characters to take the place of their favorite heroes, new powers for existing heroes, or something else altogether? We’ll find out this summer.
If nothing else, it feels as if the unpredictable spirit of the Ultimate Universe that made the comics so successful will live on even after the Endgame is over. And, who knows, maybe more than just the spirit…
