After ending the Ultimate Universe (again), Marvel is developing a new, dark alternate universe to debut this fall

Is the House of Ideas headed back to its days of horror comics? Maybe - all we know is that Marvel's Midnight line promises a world in which "The light had its turn."

Marvel's second Ultimate Universe is ending, and that's kind of a terrifying thought, right? We don't know what's gonna happen to our beloved (best) incarnation of Spider-Man, or from a more mercenary standpoint, how the end of that line will affect Marvel's sales numbers. But rather than leave us on a hopeful note of the days to come, Marvel is apparently leaning into our unease... and introducing to us to a new and terrifying universe.

Marvel's Midnight was first teased on the House of Ideas' official website May 7, and we're not going to lie to you - that teaser is just about all the info we have on the new line of comics thus far. You can check out the first promotional image below, wherein Marvel promises "A terrifying new universe" where "The light had its turn."

I know, I know, not much to go off of, right? I mean, the general vibe of the thing makes us think whatever this new universe is, it leans into horror stories - the misty visuals, "terrifying" descriptor, and Halloween-y release date would all seem to point to that. But then again, Marvel marketing could be talking about a whole different kind of terrifying - like, perhaps, a universe in which the bad guys are in power more than the heroes (sounds absolute-ly familiar, doesn't it?).

The comforting fact amidst all this disquiet is that we won't be in the dark for very long. Er, information-wise, anyway. Marvel's Midnight teaser also includes the guarantee that a full explanation is coming soon. "Stay tuned next week," it reads, "For more information on this all-new publishing line, including series and creative team reveals."

Well I don't know about you, but here at Popverse, we're excited (and maybe just a teensy but on edge) to hear more.
