Ahead of the release of the Marvel Studios film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel Comics is relaunching the Brand New Day era in Spidey comics, from which the film gets its name. Written by Dan Slott, with art by Marcus To and Marcos Martin, and covers by Phil Jimenez, The Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set within Marvel comics continuity but back during the Brand New Day era that was originally published in Spider-Man comics in 2008 through 2010. 

The Brand New Day era for Spidey originally took place after the events of the 'One More Day' storyline, where Peter and Mary Jane Watson's marriage was erased by Mephisto in order to save Aunt May's life (oh, comics!). From the ashes of "One More Day" came Brand New Day, a fresh start for the newly single Peter Parker.

Now, this new Brand New Day series will build off of the existing one hundred-plus issues of the original series. “Spider-Man is my favorite character in all of fiction. Heart on my sleeve here—I love writing Spider-Man,” said Dan Slott to Marvel. “We're going to reveal hidden secrets and plant explosive seeds that will pay off and affect what's happening in Spider-Man's world today! These will be stories that matter and that will have major consequences!"

The Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day #1 release date is May 13, 2026.

At the moment, it's unclear whether this new Brand New Day series is an ongoing series or a mini-series.

What is The Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day about? 

This new Brand New Day story will "echo from Spider-Man's past into Spider-Man's present and future," according to Marvel, which is no short order. The publisher says that the story will center on Spidey stealing the Lexicon, "one of the most valuable items" belonging to Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin. The Lexicon is the "directory of the Kingpin’s criminal enterprise," and by stealing it, Spider-Man hoped that it would cause Kingpin's empire to crumble from within. 

But where there's smoke, there's fire. Mr. Negative is also seeking out the Lexicon, along with the Punisher. So Spidey's problems have only just begun! 

How many issues will The Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day be?

We don't know how many issues The Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be. The original series ran over a hundred issues between 2008 and 2010. Perhaps Marvel is hoping that its sequel series will be a success, too?
