First there was the Ryan Coogler reboot, then the Chris Carter cut of I Want to Believe, and then that gorgeous LEGO set... It's a great time to be a fan of The X-Files, folks. Making it even better is the news out of Dynamite Entertainment today - Agents Mulder and Scully are headed back to comics, courtesy of the medium's longest-serving X-Files writer. And where better to restart this new era of freaky federal funnybooks than that most iconic of UFO locales:

Roswell, New Mexico.

Dynamite released a statement announcing the new comic August 13 (spooooky), along with the info about the comic's writer we mentioned, one Joe Harris. According to the statement, Harris was the scribe behind more X-Files comic scripts than any other writer, in particular the post-series "Season 10 & 11" run of the books originally published at IDW.

"The X-Files has always been sacred to me," wrote Harris. "From my own early TV fandom on Friday and Sunday nights to getting to work on one of the greatest supernatural thriller/science fiction franchises in history, the further adventures of Agents Mulder and Scully have occupied a very special place in my head and career. I am beyond honored to write them and I am absolutely over the moon to work with Dynamite on this new series."

For Dynamite's part, one thing that makes the acquisition of the X-Files comics rights especially exciting is the fact that it's not the only iconic TV-to-comic paranormal hit they've brought on board.

"The X-Files is the next jewel in the crown for us at Dynamite," Dynamite's CEO and publisher Nick Barrucci said in the statement, "Hot on the heels of Kelly Thompson's Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel epic."

I know what you're thinking, comic fan, because I'm thinking the same thing. Two supernatural icons under one roof - how long will it be until we get them into the same comic? Perhaps we're all getting ahead of ourselves, but if this X-Files book and that Buffy book sell as well as we hope they will...

Well, I want to believe.
