Marvel reveals that Ultimate Spider-Man is ending in December

Jonathan Hickman says his run on Ultimate Spider-Man is ending this year - on his own terms.

Two years, 24 issues. It was a good run, with a fitting ending.

What we're talking about is Marvel Comics' Ultimate Spider-Man - which, since its launch in January 2024, has been one of its best-selling series each month, and the best-selling new collection in bookstores since then. However, during the Ultimate Marvel panel just now at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2025, series writer Jonathan Hickman announced that it will end with issue #24 in December.

Hickman, who at first deadpanned that he was being fired from the book, gets serious and says the series ending like this was part of his original plan from the get-go, and something Marvel hasn't messed with.

"Everything that I pitched, nothing has deviated," Hickman says. "It's been nice to get to execute a plan, and execute a plan well."

The one thing that didn't go according to plan is the size of Ultimate Spider-Man #24, Hickman says... but in a good way; it'll be bigger.

"I love the end of this," says Hickman. "I think you guys are really going to enjoy it."

The newly introduced Ultimate Venom will be a part of this, after debuting in the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man #19. Venom will also be on the cover to the final issue.

Hickman frames this as a definitive ending for his run with the Ultimate Spider-Man character, and sets up the first major Ultimate Marvel event with Ultimate Endgame.

Ultimate Spider-Man #24 is out in December.
