Comics may break your heart, kid, but webcomics don't have to. At least, that's a reality that WEBTOON is aiming to achieve.
WEBTOON, the global webcomics juggernaut, has announced the expansion of its Creator Program to nurture talent and "fuel creative careers" of the creators on its platform. The company will also be offering a new Creator Residency program, as well as opportunities for creators to meet with WEBTOON's Creator Care and Editorial teams to "discuss their goals and how to make the most of their WEBTOON journey."
So what does this all mean in practice? The Creator Program will have "expanded monetization opportunities, new convention and event support, and new educational programming for career development." Part of this involves providing support for WEBTOON creators to attend conventions within the US and host portfolio reviews in Southeast Asia and Europe.
The Creator Residency will launch in Q1 of 2026, per the company. Twice a year, WEBTOON will invite English-language creators to the company's Los Angeles offices for a "two-week in-person workshop" where they will attend "an immersive development experience offering unprecedented access to WEBTOON's editorial resources and expertise." If you've got a story that could use some development, then the Creator Residency program could be a fit for you. Applications will open for the first 2026 session on December 18, and up to nine creators will participate in each residency.
Additionally, the company will be launching a "VIP recognition program" for invited creators that will bring them to WEBTOON's Korean offices to connect with editors, executives, and global talent.
“Creators are the heart of WEBTOON, and everything we do begins with their passion, their stories, and their trust,” Yongsoo Kim, Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global WEBTOON at WEBTOON Entertainment, said in a statement. “As we look ahead to 2026, we’re expanding our investment in Creators at every phase of their journey, from emerging talent to established voices. We’ve spent 2025 listening to Creators all over the world, piloting new programs that can help Creators achieve their goals, and we’re thrilled to expand these initiatives in 2026. Our goal is simple: to give creators the support, tools, and opportunities they need to build the careers they dream of on WEBTOON.”
More information about these initiatives will be released by WEBTOON in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out!
