Superman returns to face-off with Majestic in WildC.A.T.s #5

Could Superman bring peace between the WildC.A.T.s and the Seven Soldiers? (No)

The official advance description of the fifth issue of DC’s WildC.A.T.s teases the confrontation between the team and the Seven Soldiers — but as Popverse’s exclusive preview reveals, there’s another figure showing up to throw everything into confusion. A figure of steel, one could say…

As followers of the rebooted version of the classic '90s property already know, Matthew Rosenberg and Stephen Segovia’s version of the WildC.A.T.s takes the best of the original characters and concepts — and those of the Wildstorm Universe as a whole — and brings them firmly into the DC Universe of today. That’s become an important part of the new title, with parts of the Batman mythology central to the series so far. (Understandably, considering Grifter’s recent time as a supporting cast member in the Batbooks.) But with the fifth issue, things get… well, a little super.

Take a look at our exclusive preview of the issue to see just what we mean.

Of course, there’s more going on than just a Kal-El cameo. DC’s official advance description of the issue runs a little something like this: “Like two trains colliding, it's the WildC.A.T.s vs. the Seven Soldiers in a bloody heavyweight fight! In the shadows lurk the Court of Owls, waiting for their moment to take the threat Halo poses off the board…”

WildC.A.T.s #5 will be released March 14. Take a look at the cover gallery for the issue below, featuring covers from Stephen Segovia, Rebekah Isaacs, Dan Hipp, and Chuma Hill.

Matthew Rosenberg told Popverse all about bringing the WildC.A.T.s back to comics last year ahead of the series’ launch.

Graeme McMillan: Popverse Editor Graeme McMillan (he/him) has been writing about comics, culture, and comics culture on the internet for close to two decades at this point, which is terrifying to admit. He completely understands if you have problems understanding his accent.
