DC’s first Absolute crossover will introduce a wave of new heroes and villains, according to Scott Snyder

The first big crossover event of DC's Absolute Universe will expand the roster of characters with all new additions to help take on an evil version of the Justice League

DC's Absolute line only encompasses a few titles, but the entire DC Universe is up for reinterpretation, with Scott Snyder, writer of the line's flagship title Absolute Batman, stating that there is a big wave of new characters and concepts to soon be introduced.

It all comes down to the upcoming first Absolute crossover that brings together Absolute heroes Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and more under the guidance of Martian Manhunter, who played an important role in forming the original Justice League way back in the early '60s.

"There's a lot of expansion in the event that Jason is doing, which will also expand the universe a lot. That, obviously, is about these characters meeting, coming up against a big threat, the proxy to the Justice League essentially, which is the villains in our universe," Snyder tells ComicPop Returns. "So how do they go up against them? They have to find a different way than you'd expect, and that brings in a lot of characters that are kind of hiding in the shadows, good and bad. There's a lot of expansion into 2026 and 2027 even if the line itself stays modest in the number of books."

Maintaining a steady stream of titles without overcrowding has been part of the ethos of the Absolute line since it launched in 2024, with Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman anchoring the line. Absolute Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter followed, with the latest titles being Absolute Green Lantern and Absolute Catwoman, both of which Snyder promises will keep the introduction of new characters flowing into DC's critically acclaimed line.

"We try and keep the line small, make sure every character, no one's getting thrown in there just to get thrown in there," Snyder explains. "But for example, Green Arrow does have some big character introductions, and Catwoman has a lot actually. Catwoman in issue 1, there's a huge character introduction coming that I think will get people excited and talking. And by issue 2, there's a bunch more because you start to realize Selina's past has intersected with a bunch [Absolute DCU] characters from Gotham in addition to the boys of Crime Alley."

Absolute Martian Manhunter was a particular highlight of the line, though it recently concluded with the creative team set to move onto another, still unannounced title as part of DC's All-In publishing initiative. But with Martian Manhunter playing such a big role in the unnamed Absolute crossover, series writer Deniz Camp will join Jason Aaron to co-write the scenes and story elements involving the character.
