Chalk another unbelievable victory up for Dog Man — the latest installment of Dan Pilkey’s best-selling kids’ book series took the top spot in sales charts across the world, with Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder being named the #1 top-selling book in its first week of release in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the United Kingdom… with signs that, unusually for an 12th book in a series, demand is continuing to grow.

With more than a quarter of a million copies sold in the U.S. alone, it’s safe to say that the new Dog Man is a hit — but what’s particularly interesting is that sales were up 9% in Australia and New Zealand compared with the previous book in the series, 2023’s Dog Man: Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea, similarly, sales of the new book were 10% higher in Canada, and a whopping 48% higher in the United Kingdom.

That’s not all; in a statement released to press, Ellie Berger, President of trade for Dog Man publisher Scholastic, said, “Not only have we seen robust sales with the release of The Scarlet Shedder, we also saw a 25% increase in backlist sales for Dog Man in the U.S.” Berger attributed this to “the incredible appeal and influence of Dav Pilkey's books with their trademark humor and heart. We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm for the series continue to grow worldwide."

The excitement around Dog Man is only likely to grow in the next few years; not only has Scholastic recently launched a campaign to promote reading and increase access to books for kids using the character, but Dog Man is set to make his big screen debut in 2025 in an animated movie from DreamWorks Animation. It’s Dog Man’s world; we just live in it. (And get to enjoy his adventures.)

If you’re not onboard the Dog Man train yet, don’t fear; we’ve got the ideal guide to help you catch up to the wildly-successful series before it’s too late.
