Maybe I'm making too large a generalization, but I would say that most people who've played D&D know what a kobold is. They're little dragon guys, usually on the bad side, kind of like a cross between a naughty goblin and a lizard. That said, the good folks at Critical Role have done their share of fleshing out these characters that could fall into the trap of being simple hero fodder, so much so that one of the cast has even considered making a kobold character.

And reader, do I even need to tell you that it's Sam Riegel?

Riegel explained as much at Anime Frontier 2025, where he was joined by OG Rolers Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, Liam O'Brien, and Taliesin Jaffe. The subject didn't come up unprompted, though - Riegel actually made his admission after being directly asked by an attending Critter if he'd ever thought about building a sunlight-averse dungeon dweller.

"I've considered it," said The Mighty Nein voice actor and producer, "I like playing smaller characters and, yeah, I've considered it. It would be super fun. I think an all-kobold game would also be fun."

"Chris Perkins just set a fine example," chimed in costar O'Brien, probably referring to Dungeons & Dragons staple Perkins playing Exandrian Kobold Spurt in special CR appearances.

In other words, keep an eye out for the next time Riegel has to build an original character. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it turned out pretty scaly.
