The Dimension 20 cast knows how to piss off Critical Role GM Brennan Lee Mulligan - put Dropout's Ally Beardsley in the game

Ally Beardsley has been rules lawyering against Brennan Lee Mulligan since Dimension 20 campaign 1

"What does the internet love more than an upset Brennan?"

That's the question Dropout star Katie Marovitch asked as she was trying to get funding for what would eventually become Dimension 20 On a Bus, a gag episode of the hit TTRPG actual play show that, indeed, seemed intended as an exercise in exacerbating the show's creator and most regular GM, Brennan Lee Mulligan. But for all the steam in caused to come out of Mulligan's ears, D20 On a Bus was a one-off gag - not meant to infuriate the new Critical Role GM in the long term. So when we got the chance to chat with two cast members of the latest D20 season, we had to ask - how does one upset Brennan (and please the internet) as a long-form project?

Well, according to Jacob Wysocki and Oscar Montoya, the answer lies in another cast member.

For context here - Popverse got to chat with Wysocki and Montoya in the midst of Dimension 20's 27th season; that is, Gladlands, currently airing on Dropout. At one point in the conversation, the eternal quest to create more "angry Brennan" memes came up, and as frequent collaborators with the GM, the pair of comedians knew exactly what to do.

"I think the easiest answer," said Wysocki, who plays KoKoMo in the latest season of the actual play megahit, "And it may not be the most satiating answer, but I do think it's the easiest answer. Make sure Ally Beardsley's at your table."

"That was literally gonna be my answer too!" interjected Montoya.

Honestly, that shouldn't be too much of a surprise for fans of Dropout's stadium-filling fantasy roleplay series. Beardsley has been a hysterical thorn in Mulligan's side across the 12 D20 campaigns they've been on together. And according to Wysocki, Gladlands was no exception.

"There is a part of the show," says the Dropout star, "Where Ally Beardsley says something and Brennan is like, 'That was actually too far.' [...] We get to see it."

We'll keep an eye out, Jacob.

The final episode of Dimension 20 season 27, Gladlands, airs February 10 on Dropout.
