Dispatch, the new game from Critical Role and former developers from Telltale Games, hits 1 million copies sold - before it is even fully released

It has been seven years since Telltale Games folded and was reformed without much of its core staff, but the space it took in the industry has remained unfilled. However, former Telltale devs at AdHoc Studios have proven that there is still a market for the narrative-focused adventure games that made their old studio famous. AdHoc’s first game, Dispatch, made in partnership with Critical Role, has already sold over 1 million copies – and the final episode still hasn’t dropped.

Dispatch follows Mecha Man, a semi-retired hero who takes up a job as a dispatcher for a superhero agency. It combines unit management gameplay with a branching narrative that changes depending on what players decide to do at key moments. The first four episodes are already out, with two more expected on November 5, 2025 and the final two episodes on November 12. However, just because it isn’t complete doesn’t mean players aren’t eager to play it.

AdHoc Studios confirmed on November 4, 2025 that Dispatch has sold more than 1 million copies already, with only half of the game out yet, proving that there is still a Telltale-shaped hole in the gaming market that no one has been able to fill in the seven years since that studio’s closure. Dispatch looks and feels very much like a good Marvel animated series and features an all-star cast that includes Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul and Critical Role cast members Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, Liam O’Brien, and Matthew Mercer, which certainly won’t hurt sales.

With more than a week before the game is fully released, it already looks safe to say that Dispatch has become a hit for AdHoc Studios, who are carrying the torch for Telltale at the moment.
