Grand Theft Auto 6 (and the whole franchise) may not hit the same way today because the world's now just as crazy as the game, according to GTA 5 actor Lester Crest

How can GTA 6 parody a world like ours? Rockstar is going to try to find out.

One of the most important parts of the Grand Theft Auto franchise has always been the tongue-in-cheek humor and the way it satirizes the real world. However, GTA 6 is probably going to run into a little problem there; not because Rockstar isn’t still just as funny as they’ve always been, but because, according to GTA 5 voice actor Jay Klaitz.

Jay Klaitz has made multiple appearances in GTA Online over the years as hacker Lester Crest, so he’s pretty well acquainted with the importance of satire and parody in the Grand Theft Auto series. He doesn’t doubt that Rockstar will lean into that for the upcoming GTA 6 release in November. The problem is that the world has become a very different place that, as The Boys has found out multiple times, is almost impossible to satirize because of how chaotic everything has become.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if a bit of the impact is taken out of GTA VI’s initial landing,” Klaitz said in a recent interview. “Don’t get me wrong. It’s still fucking GTA. It’s going to be massive. People will lose their shit. It’s going to be huge, obviously. But it’s a different world to the one 13 years ago when the last one came out. I mean, it’s a very different world than it was even a year ago. What seemed so far-fetched and insane just a short while ago now feels like just another day, so maybe GTA VI can’t make the same splash as previous games.”

Klaitz did admit that he doesn’t know what players will think of GTA 6 when it comes out. “That said, I don’t know. Maybe that’s bullshit. I know there will be plenty of commentary and satire woven into it. There’s a lot of the Florida Man stuff and lots of territory like that still to cover. The political spotlight often veers toward Florida, and maybe for that reason, it’ll still sink its hooks into people, but what we see happening in the real world is definitely going to make it harder for a GTA game to work those angles.”

GTA 6 is out November 19, 2026, so we have a few months to wait to see if the satire of the series lands the same now as it did a decade ago.
