Psychonauts developer Double Fine's new game is about a sentient lighthouse and we can't wait to play it

Keeper is out in October 2025 and brings that Double Fine look to another weird concept, instantly making it one of our most anticipated games of the year

Let’s be honest – gaming is always better when it is weird. And no one does weird quite like Double Fine. Ever since 2005's Psychonauts, they’ve been a game developer with a distinct style and their upcoming release, Keeper, looks like it is more of the same. If anything, this might be the most Double Fine-looking game we’ve ever seen... and we mean that as a compliment.

For starters, Keeper is about a sentient lighthouse. That alone would be enough to get our attention because it is weird and we love weird stuff. However, the aesthetics are what really drew us in. There is that sculpted feel to everything in the announcement trailer shown during Summer Game Fest 2025 that Double Fine is known for. Like a cartoon mixed with a nightmare made under the influence of acid.

Here is the kicker and what has suddenly made Keeper one of our most anticipated games of 2025 – the trailer doesn’t feature any dialogue. It is a long shot, but we can only hope that the final game is the same. Give us a puzzle game that depends entirely on environmental storytelling. We know that Double Fine has the ambition to try it. Even games that miss the mark, like Broken Age, try to push a little bit further. Heaven knows we love a trier, so the idea of a completely silent game with the Double Fine look and feel has us chomping at the bit.

Keeper is due out on October 17, 2025 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
