The Game Awards 2025 finally gave us not one but two new Tomb Raider games on the horizon

Tomb Raider: Catalyst is a sequel to a nearly 20 year old Tomb Raider game while Legacy of Atlantis is a remake of the OG Tomb Raider game.

Lara Croft has been a very busy lady. She’s managed to coax Avatar star Sigourney Weaver into nearing a deal to join the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series, and she’s got not one but two games currently in development. At The Game Awards 2025, Amazon confirmed that they’re going all in on Lara Croft and are developing both a brand-new Tomb Raider game and a remake of the original classic.

First, the new title. Called Tomb Raider: Catalyst, this is a bit of an unusual game in our eyes. Not that it is odd that Crystal Dynamics is creating a new Tomb Raider game, but it is considered a direct sequel to 2008’s Tomb Raider: Underworld rather than the Survivor trilogy that concluded in 2018 with Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Catalyst will have the difficult job of trying to marry the conflicting timelines of Tomb Raider into one, (hopefully) coherent story.

Speaking of timelines, the game that kicked off the whole franchise is getting a reimagining. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a remake of 1996’s Tomb Raider game, where Lara Croft has to explore the fallen remnants of the Atlantean civilization. It is being developed by Flying Wild Hog, a Polish developer, alongside Crystal Dynamics. There have been rumors of a Tomb Raider remake for a few years now, but this is the first time we’ve seen an official confirmation of Legacy of Atlantis being in development.

Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the next game in the Tomb Raider series, is expected to be out in 2027. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is out in 2026.
