MTG x FF gets meta as the Magic: The Gathering card game is crossing over with Final Fantasy's own trading card game

In case you didn't know, Final Fantasy has its OWN trading card game, and Magic: The Gathering is releasing two new promo cards that tie into it

It's been a big year for Final Fantasy and Magic: The Gathering fans as Wizards of the Coast prepares to launch their highly-anticipated crossover set June 13. And, even after a litany of announcements at PAX East this year, there's still more to look forward to with this set.

Namely, Magic: The Gathering is acknowledging that there's already a Final Fantasy trading card game from Square Enix in the form of a new promo card. As noted on the Magic: The Gathering website, players who attend "side events" at MagicCon: Las Vegas this June 20-22 and Magic Spotlight: FINAL FANTASY in Chiba, Japan on June 27-29 "will receive a traditional foil Swords to Plowshares promo card as well as a FINAL FANTASY Trading Card Game Alphinaud promo card." Together, the two cards look pretty neat!

The Swords to Plowshares is not the first promo card announced for the Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy crossover set. Previously, Wizards of the Coast announced that attendees at MagicCon this year will receive a special Torgal promo card, representing Clive Rosfield's loyal hound from Final Fantasy XVI. I'm already immensely jealous of everyone who is attending.

If you haven't gotten the chance to check out Square Enix's Final Fantasy trading card game and you're already attending MagicCon, Wizards of the Coast is giving you a great opportunity to start another collection. For some fans, the announcement of the Final Fantasy Magic: The Gathering set felt like an opportunity to hold their favorite Final Fantasy characters in cardboard form. But there's already an existing Final Fantasy TCG that's even more expansive than what they'll be getting in the MTG crossover. Something to think on.

The Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy sets release June 13.
