Marvel's Spider-Man lore gets a new form of goblin in Magic: The Gathering partnership
If you're a Spider-Man fan, you've heard of Hobgoblins, the Green Goblin, even the Gold Goblin. Now, Magic: The Gathering adds goblinoids to the mix

There are trends within Spider-Man comics that come and go every few years. A few years ago, symbiotes were all the rage, and then goblins became all the rage (case in point: Gold Goblin). And now, it looks like goblins are here to stay, because Magic: The Gathering’s Spider-Man crossover set has introduced an entirely new form of goblin in the world of Spider-Man: goblinoids.
Wizards of the Coast unveiled a new card from the Marvel’s Spider-Man set called Raging Goblinoids. While the goblinoids themselves look vaguely like Ultimate Green Goblin (who has his own card in the set, naturally) because of their horns, their name and vibe isn’t one that rings any bells to our Spidey experts here, at least. The artist of Raging Goblinoids, Filipe Pagliuso, is largely known for for Magic: The Gathering art - so in other words, they’re not a comic book artist like Jim Cheung, Bill Sienkiewicz, and Paolo Rivera, whose work is also featured in the set.

Of course, what happens in the Magic: The Gathering set will likely have no bearing over the future of Spider-Man in Marvel Comics. But Wizards of the Coast has planted a new vocabulary word within the minds of Spider-Man fans with Raging Goblinoids. Many folks who play Magic: The Gathering play the game because they love engaging with the immense lore within the Magic Multiverse. There are plenty of Spider-folks who love Spider-Man for similar reasons. So what I am getting at here is that who’s to say that we won’t see some raging goblinoids within the pages of Marvel Comics at some point, thanks to a Magic: The Gathering fan who got the chance to write the wall-crawler.
