The Spider-Man x Magic: The Gathering cards aren't on sale yet, but some boxes are already going for nearly $1,000 on the secondary market

Who knew being a Spider-Man fan could be so expensive? Actually, why am I even asking that question, I remember when The Amazing Spider-Man began publishing weekly after issue #74 in the fall of 2021 (luckily for Spidey fans, it is no longer a weekly book).
As if playing Magic: The Gathering wasn't enough of an expensive hobby, unless you play Pauper, the collector booster boxes for the upcoming Marvel's Spider-Man set are being sold for a pretty penny by resellers. IGN reported that the collector boosters for Spider-Man have sold out on the distributor level ahead of the set's release on September 26, and that the collector booster boxes (containing 12 packs of 15-card collector boosters, so 180 cards in total) are fetching nearly $1,000 on the secondary market.
But what if you want just one collector booster pack? Well, you're not much better off on the secondary market. IGN also reported that single collector packs have a market price of $88 on TCGPlayer, making the effect on the soul (and wallet) the opposite of Aunt May's chicken soup.
What's all the fuss about collector boosters, you ask? Well, collector boosters are typically more expensive than your regular play booster packs for any Magic: The Gathering set, because they have rarer and prettier cards. In other words, collector boosters are designed to activate all of our crow brains (a colloquialism referring to the human tendency to gravitate towards shiny objects). And clearly, Magic: The Gathering has done a damn good job at activating our crow brains.
