The world may be a mess today, but at least you don’t have to look far to find elements of Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s King in Black storyline in other media besides comic books. In the wake of Marvel Rivals incorporating Knull, the villain from Cates and Stegman’s run on Venom, into the game’s lore, Magic: The Gathering has delivered something for us Cates-Stegman Venomites (I just came up with that term now) in the form of a card called Venom, King in Black.
Venom, King in Black, is a functional reprint of Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon, and uses the cover art from Venom #200 by Ryan Stegman, JP Mayer, and Frank Martin, the bookend of Stegman and Cates’s run on the character. Venom, looking rather chuffed, looks directly at us. As he should be! He just saved the entire planet from being swallowed up by Knull.

Anyways, Knull was Venom’s symbiote god, and was revealed to be a primordial entity hellbent on drenching the entire universe in darkness. Knull nearly succeeded in the King in Black event, but never underestimate the power of a father hoping to become the role model his son deserves - as was the case with Eddie Brock and his son, Dylan.
