Concept art for scrapped Batman: Arkham Knight sequel surfaces as Rocksteady reportedly preps a Batman Beyond game

Games get canceled all the time. Sometimes because the studio can’t see a way forward with it and sometimes because the studio gets closed down. However, rumors of a sequel to Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Knight had been circulating for a while before Warner Bros. ordered them to switch focus to the disastrous Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Turns out, there was a sequel to Batman: Arkham Knight in the works and it took inspiration from the beloved animated series Batman Beyond.

Codenamed Project Sabbath, the Batman: Arkham Knight sequel would have been about Damian Wayne as he attempts to step into his father’s cowl as the protector of Gotham. Bruce is still around in this game, though he is notably older and walks with a leg brace, similar to what we saw in The Dark Knight Rises.

Now, new concept art for the game has surfaced online. Character artist Rodrigue Pralier, who was at Warner Bros. Games Montreal in 2014-2015, posted it, though it was swiftly taken down. Fortunately, the internet is forever and the screenshots have been shared online.

We get to see an adult Damian and aged-up Bruce Wayne, plus some cool concept art for this game’s Killer Croc and Huntress. It is all very vague and there is no indication that Rocksteady got very far into development of their Batman: Arkham Knight sequel – though there are still rumors that they are currently working on a proper Batman Beyond game. Whether that rumored game features Terry McGinnis or this grown-up Damian Wayne as its new Batman would need to be seen.

We’re still probably years away from any sort of reveal for anything Rocksteady is working on, though we can be sure it is probably Batman-related considering Warner Bros' renewed focus on DC characters.

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
