A Ghost of Yotei sequel is possible thanks to the immediate success, but it'll take at least 5 years says Sucker Punch
Making a single game at a time has its drawbacks, as the Ghost of Tsushima sequel occupies all of the developer's focus.

It is no secret that AAA video games are taking longer to make, and their budgets are swelling to astronomical proportions. For Sucker Punch, the developer behind Ghost of Yotei and its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, they’ve managed to keep costs down by remaining a relatively small studio and working on a single game at a time. However, that comes at a cost, as Sucker Punch co-founder and studio head Brian Fleming confirmed that the studio wouldn’t have a potential sequel to Ghost of Yotei out for at least five years – if it happens at all.
“The truth is that whatever we do next, whether it’s continuing Ghost or going back to Sly, the decision is really more limited by, again, our cherishing of focus and time to iterate, which means that we really can only do one thing at a time,” Fleming said in an interview. “If we were good at juggling four projects, yeah, we’d have a remaster, and let’s go do one of those, and one of those, and do some fan requests. That would be really popular… but we only get to do one thing.”
Because Sucker Punch only works on one game at a time, they have to be very picky about what project they choose to do next.
“So, it kind of has to be your best idea, right? And that’s really clarifying. It’s not like there aren’t 15 good ideas. But you only get to do one. And by the way, you only get to do one about every five years. So that choice is really important. I mean, that is choosing your college and your major every five years.”
So we could be getting a follow-up to Ghost of Yotei or a long-awaited sequel to Sly Cooper, but we’ll have to wait at least five years to see it happen. But whatever Sucker Punch works on next, we know it will at least be the best idea they could come up with.
