Want free comics? Then you want a library. All it takes is a library card.

You can sign up for a library card any day of the year, but September is Library Card Sign-Up Month - meaning there's no better time than now to dust off your card or get a new card and encourage your friends to do so as well. At Popverse, we're more than a little bit partial to comics, and the folks at the American Library Association's Graphic Novel & Comics Round Table (GNCRT) are doing a special event to garner more attention for this month's special ocassion.

It's called 'Creators Get Carded'... and no, we're not checking their IDs.

"Creators Get Carded is GNCRT's annual Library Card Sign-Up Month event where we partner with comics creators to help spread the word about the great things available through public libraries," says GNCRT past president Matthew Noe, who is a librarian with Harvard Medical School. "We invite creators to share a photo with their own library card (or cards!), share a little about what the public library has meant to them, and share all of this through our social media channels."

The Creators Get Carded event kicked off September 1 with Maris Wicks (pictured with article) of Human Body Theater fame. GNCRT will have comic creators participating each day of September, including Skottie Young, Sannon Hale, Jason Shiga, and Alex Segura.

"From a library perspective, this helps encourage people to visit their library and from a creator, and publisher, perspective, this offers a chance to reach new audiences through a pretty lowkey marketing opportunity," Noe adds.
