Popverse's top stories of the day

The Ghostbusters franchise has, against all odds, received a second and then a third lease on life. It was briefly resurrected in cinemas in 2016 with Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, a reboot which failed to perform at the box office. In 2021, Sony decided to make a straight sequel to the original movies with Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which did well enough to get a sequel of its own. But when is that sequel, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, coming out?

With a trailer that promises to give us multiple generations of Ghostbusters in action, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will hit cinemas around the world on March 22, 2024. It follows on from the events of the previous film and brings the action closer to where the franchise started. The Spengler family leaves the relatively quiet world of Oklahoma and takes up residence in the iconic New York City firehouse.

The marketing for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire have shown that the movie isn’t afraid to rely on nostalgia and fanservice to generate interest, but there is something magical about seeing the Ghostbusters logo on the corner of the firehouse. Even seeing William Atherton return as the bureaucratic EPA inspector Walter Peck is an appropriate nod to the first film. We doubt it will focus as heavily on the entrepreneurial spirit that was at the heart of the franchise in the beginning, but that doesn’t mean that Frozen Empire doesn’t look like a proton pack full of fun.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is set to be released on March 22, 2024 worldwide.
