Last year, Jason Aaron's nearly fifteen years-long exclusive agreement with Marvel came to an end. Now, Aaron is taking on Batman in a new limited series coming out this fall, IGN has reported in an exclusive story. Jason Aaron, alongside artist Doug Mahnke and inker Jamie Mendoza, will be launching a six-issue limited series titled Batman: Off-World which will follow a "young" Batman as he faces a new enemy - from space!

DC's official blurb for the series reads: A routine night in Gotham City for a young Batman proves to be anything but routine when the crime-fighter is confronted with a sort of foe he’s never faced before—one from beyond the stars! A universe of possible alien threats leads Batman to make a daring decision—to venture alone into the far reaches of the cosmos for the very first time, where the Dark Knight will face the fight of his life!

Though Jason Aaron has technically written for DC Comics quite a bit through the Vertigo imprint, most notably through his series with R. M. Guéra, Scalped, he has not written all that much with characters in the actual DC Universe, beyond two issues with Constantine in Hellblazer and a one-shot titled Joker's Asylum: Penguin. This limited series'six issues will double Aaron's output featuring DC characters, marking a more official DC "debut" with DC's most recognizable character.

Batman: Off-World #1 will be released on November 21, 2023.
