R.L. Stine has written over 200 Goosebumps books, but the author says there is one entry of the children’s horror series that he thinks everyone has overlooked. While some characters like Slappy from Night of the Living Dummy have become staples of the franchise and have been adapted numerous times, one of Stine’s favorite Goosebumps stories has yet to be retold in television or film.

“There’s one I really like, it doesn’t get mentioned much,” Goosebumps creator R.L. Stine tells Popverse’s Grant DeArmitt at New York Comic Con 2025. “It’s a comic book, Goosebumps book actually, it’s called They Call Me the Night Howler, and it’s about a boy who goes to a superhero museum, and he runs into the superhero called the Night Howler.”

“The Night Howler says, ‘I’ve had it with this, there’s no money in it. It’s terrible. I’m not enjoying it.’ And he takes off his costume and gives it to the kid. He says, ‘You’re the Night Howler now. Good luck.’ And the kid is stuck. He’s now the Night Howler. I’d love to see someone do something with that. It’s a fairly recent Goosebumps book.”
