Finally, there's an official Green Eggs & Spam for sale in unique Spam x Dr. Seuss collab - but you can only get it at Walmart

Dr. Seuss and Spam are collaborating to make co-branded dreams come true for the 65th anniversary of Green Eggs & Ham

Oh, you thought that it was Green Eggs and Ham? Sorry, I’ve got bad news for you — thanks to the wonders of marketing and cross promotional purposes, it’s now officially Green Eggs and Spam — and there’s some exclusive packaging to prove it.

Officially, the limited edition Green Eggs & Spam cans — which will be available exclusively for a limited period at Walmart stores starting August 12 — are a celebration of the anniversary of the Dr. Seuss classic Green Eggs & Ham, first published August 12, 1960. Unofficially, I think we can all recognize that Big Spam is stepping in to rewrite our childhood memories, and that this is just the start. What’s next? Goodnight Spam? Spamta Claus?!?

“The iconic rhythm and rhymes of Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham have now been a staple in children’s literature for 65 years,” Jimeka Brussard, director of North American licensing at Dr. Seuss Enterprises, said in a statement accompanying the announcement of the partnership between Seuss Enterprises and Spam. “Few know it was actually written using only 50 words. We’re thinking the 51st word would have been Spam! We can’t wait to see what kind of dishes our fans whip up with this one-of-a-kind collaboration.”

If your mind is blank as to what kind of dishes could be thought up, don’t worry; the official Spam website — there’s an official Spam website, by the way — has a suggestion for you to try, which only takes 30 minutes and some smart use of spinach and parsley leaves to color the eggs. Ironically, the directions for the recipe are over 100 words, twice as long as the original Seuss book.

The official Green Eggs & Spam packaging launches August 12.
