Mistborn author Brandon Sanderson finally feels he's "established" enough to pursue a Cosmere video game

Brandon Sanderson spent part of 2025 pitching a Mistborn video game to various AAA developers and may have some positive news to share in the coming year.

Brandon Sanderson is an author who always has multiple irons in every fire. For well over a decade, he has been pumping out Mistborn and Stormlight Archive books at a baffling pace, but we’ve never managed to get any major adaptations of his works. While he’s been reportedly hard at work trying to get a film or TV show made based on his books, over the Christmas break, he dropped the news that he’s also looking to see a Mistborn video game get made by a AAA studio.

During his State of the Sanderson blog post in December, Brandon Sanderson gave a detailed update on the progress his various adaptations have had over the past 12 months. He also had an update no one really expected – he’s currently shopping a Mistborn video game around to various developers.

“I’ve started to get some real interest on the video game front, and I feel I’m finally getting established enough that we can make a Mistborn game happen,” Brandon Sanderson wrote. “To that end, I’ve started talking to some AAA developers. This is Step One only, but it’s an encouraging One.”

It is interesting that Sanderson felt he wasn’t established enough until now to consider a Mistborn video game a possibility, despite being a prolific bestselling author for well over a decade now. One of the biggest hurdles that he’s finally overcome has been a legal one. “These rights were tied up with the film rights for the last… oh, six-seven years, so I didn’t get to test the market on them until recently. I’m trying to do things differently this time in an effort to retain control of my video game rights. I already have interest from some major players in the Video Game industry (who I like a lot). So if you are a decision maker at a AAA studio or a major independent, and you’ve always wanted to make a Mistborn or Stormlight game… well, you would want to contact my reps now.”

Sanderson’s blog and social media presence have always been a big reason why he has amassed such a loyal fanbase, so updates like this are pretty par for the course for him. We’ll just have to wait until later in 2026 to see if anything comes from a potential Mistborn video game adaptation.
