The nominees for the 2024 Harvey Awards have been announced, with comics from around the world being spotlighted as the best in their their individual arenas as well as the be-all, end-all best of the year. Over 50 comics across seven key categories have been chosen, giving one more reason (as if you needed one) to read some amazing comics.

This year's Harvey Awards nominees across seven categories cover the gamut of the comics medium, from books to digital offerings, as well as international titles (and specifically manga), and into the categories of children's and young adult work. And unlike most other comics awards, the Harvey also highlights adaptations of comics - be it as live-action movies, animated series, as well as video games and musicals.

This year, there are two books vying for two awards each; Roaming by Jillian and Mariko Tamaki is nominated for both 'Best Young Adult Book' and 'Book of the Year,' while Deena Mohamed's Shubeik Lubeik is up for 'Book of the Year' and 'Best International Book.'

Fantagraphics and Webtoon garnered the most nominations with six each - with Webtoon taking six of the 10 nominations for 'Digital Book of the Year.'

Ed Brubaker, who has won in the past for work on Marvel's Captain America and Daredevil, has two projects in contention; his and Sean Phillips' Where the Body Was is up for 'Book of the Year,' while Friday by he and Marcos Martin is up for 'Digital Book of the Year.'

Molly Osterag is in similar shape, competing for 'Best Children's Book' with her and Xanthe Bouma's Dungeons & Dragons Club: Time to Party, and 'Best Young Adult Book' with Deep Dark.

Rachel Smythe's Lore Olympus won 'Digital Book of the Year' for the past three years, and is again in contention for this year's award. The seminal Blacksad series is in a similar trajectory, again up for 'Best International' for its seventh volume.

Organized by the Harvey Awards Executive Committee and ReedPop (Popverse's parent company), the nominees for this year's Harvey Awards are being determined by a select group of comics industry professionals, press, publishers, creators, educators, librarians, and retailers. They are currently going through the longboxes, bookshelves, websites, and apps to determine the best comic books, graphic novels, manga, and adaptations of the past year.

The Harvey awards are named for the late writer/artist Harvey Kurtzman, co-creator of the iconic humor comic anthology Mad and a key figure in the North American comics industry and was a mentor to icons such as Robert Crumb, Drew Friedman, and Terry Gillam.

With the nominees now announced, now is the time to vote. The Harvey Awards welcomes professionals from across the comic book industry to vote on this year’s awards. This means all professional creators – writers, artists, colors, letterers, designers and editors are eligible to vote. In addition to professional creators, publishing professionals (sales, marketing, etc.), comic book retailers and librarians are also eligible to vote. If you fit any of the above criteria or work in the comic book industry, apply to vote on the Harvey Awards website.

The winners will be announced in the annual Harvey Awards ceremony honoring all of the nominees. The event will take place the evening of Friday, October 18 at New York Comic Con 2024.
