Coming to San Diego Comic-Con? Maybe you'd want to watch a Sumo show with Godzilla as a guest-star

Godzilla will officially be joining the Super Power Show!, a sumo and Japanese culture live event coming to SDCC 2025 (and then going to New Jersey afterwards)

I have two words for you: Godzilla sumo.

Admit it: you already want to know more.

Toho International, the US arm of Godzilla owners the Toho Company, has announced a brand new deal with WorldWide Sumo that will see the internationally iconic kaiju join the cast of the Super Power Show! — a live event that will feature live sumo wrestling, a Japanese marketplace, musical performances… and, now, live appearances from Godzilla himself.

(Okay, it’ll actually be cosplayer Sean Sumagaysay in the costume, as opposed to an actual live kaiju, but that’s because the real Godzilla has to keep making all those movies.)

Per WorldWide Sumo, the Super Power Show! will feature: “Sumo Wrestling Exhibitions featuring former professional sumo wrestlers from Japan, Mongolia and Brazil; Live Music Performances; Taiko Drumming & Shamisen Performances; Japanese Marketplace with authentic food, drinks & artisan goods; Exclusive Merchandise; [and] Surprise Guest Appearances.” Sounds like a good time, even before you get to the Godzilla of it all.

The show will debut in San Diego to coincide with this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, before moving to New Jersey for a summer engagement this August. Tickets are already available, and we can only imagine going fast, because, again: Godzilla sumo. To be fair, we do not guarantee that Godzilla will actually be sumo wrestling, as much as the idea feels entirely right; there are, after all, professional sumo wrestlers at the show to do that instead.

Of course, Popverse will be at San Diego Comic-Con this July. And if there’s any downtime while we’re there, don’t be too surprised if we end up at Petco Park’s Gallagher Square to see this happen in person. We’re only human.
