A good undead overlord always plays the long game. If you have a keen ear and memory, fans of the Overlord anime would have discerned a movie teaser playing out in season 4 of the Overlord anime series. At the New York Comic Con Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom panel, Madhouse director Naoyuki Itō told the audience where to dig for those Easter Eggs.
“If you watch Episode 7 and episode 8 of season 4, you may notice little nuances we blend into the season,” he shared. The grand plan against the Holy Kingdom was in play all along, all while Sorcerer King Ainz Ooal Gown was courting an alliance with the dwarfs.
The panel played 13 minutes of The Sacred Kingdom opening, revealing Demiurge spreading terror upon the Holy Kingdom–cutting right a crucial kidnapping. After which the director promised that the following scenes may seem familiar to Overlord followers, implying a visible season 4 connection.
Moderator Lauren Moore from Crunchyroll also gave special emphasis to these words, “this [movie Sacred Kingdom] is not a recap,” referring to the last two Overlord movies being recap films. After two years of anime hiatus, fans are surely thirsting for a new Overlord adventures.
Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom will be released on Friday, November 8, in theaters across the United States, with English dub and original Japanese with English subtitles available.
