Alex has not been cast in Warner Bros's A Minecraft Movie sequel according to Henry actor Sebastian Hansen, but he is already hyped

Sebastian Hansen speculates on how Alex will be used in A Minecraft Movie’s inevitable sequel

Is the world ready to meet Alex?

Maybe, but first Warner Bros. has to cast her.

If you stayed after the credits during A Minecraft Movie, then you would’ve seen Jack Black’s character Steve return to his old home in the real world, only to see that it had a new occupant named Alex. When I saw this movie in theaters, the reaction from the audience was strong. It was the type of energy you used to see in Marvel movies when their post-credits scenes revealed new characters.

If you’re not familiar, when you play Minecraft, you use a male avatar named Steve. He’s basically the default skin. In 2014, Alex was added as an alternate skin, giving players the option to play as a female.

When we’re introduced to Alex in the film, we hear her voice, but her face isn’t seen. The character was voiced by Kate McKinnon, and Alice May Connolly was her physical stand-in. This gives Warner Bros. some freedom when it comes to casting her.

Sebastian Hansen, who played Henry in A Minecraft Movie, says that he has no idea what WB’s casting plans are for the character. “We don’t know if we have an actor. I don’t know, so don’t take it from me,” Hansen says during a panel at Tampa Bay Comic Convention.

Hansen went on to say that he wasn’t on set when that scene was filmed, so the Alex reveal was a surprise for him as well.

“At the end of the movie when Steve comes back to his house, I was like, ‘Oh my god, Alex is there.’ I think there’s going to be an actor. I don’t know who it’s going to be. Don’t take it from me, because I don’t want to get, ‘Sebastian, why did you say that?’ I think there’s going to be someone new, it’s probably going to be Alex or something like that, but I think she’s going to be someone important.”

Whoever gets the role will need to match Jack Black’s chaotic energy, since Alex is supposed to be a female version of Steve. They could always keep Kate McKinnon.
