This is a saying that has reverberated in the Minecraft community since Technoblade lost his life to cancer in 2022. The content creator was known for his Minecraft videos on YouTube, which helped him gain close to 11 million subscribers.
The Minecraft community flooded the internet with tributes after Technoblade’s death, but one player wanted to take things further. When Sebastian Hansen was cast in A Minecraft Movie, he made it his mission to include Technoblade in the film.
“I’m flying over [to set], and I kept telling my dad that I wanted to tell the director that there’s this guy who passed away, and I wanted there to be a tribute to him,” Hansen recalls during a panel at Tampa Bay Comic Con. “So, I went to [director Jared Hess’s] office, and I said, ‘Hey Jared, there’s this guy named Technoblade. He’s this cool Minecrafter and he passed away from cancer. Is there any way we can say anything about that?’ And he was like, ‘Okay, well if you can get me photos of the guy and show me what you want to see, we might make it happen.’”
“The next day I showed him all these printed photos. And then, a little while later, I almost forgot it, and there was this one scene, and he says, ‘Okay, Sebastian you’re going to point to the pig.’ It really meant something to me, because it’s hard when people pass away. So, it was definitely something to have memorabilia for him.”
If you haven’t seen the film, Hansen is referring to a scene where his character points to a pig with a crown, who was designed to look like Technoblade’s avatar. When Hansen’s character asks who the pig was, Jack Black replies that he’s a legend.
Speaking from personal experience, due to various kids in my life, I saw the film in theaters five times. The audience had a strong reaction to the Technoblade tribute every time. Hansen and Hess couldn’t have come up with a better tribute.
