When Happy Gilmore 2 was first announced, everyone was focused on two things: first, why make the sequel after all these years? The answer to that question is, of course, money, but fans also quickly wondered who Adam Sandler would bring on for the sequel. The original was filled with cameos and comedy legends, but Adam Sandler knew he rapper Bad Bunny could hold his own on the set from the moment he saw him host Saturday Night Live.
Adam Sandler, of course, has a close connection to SNL, having been part of the cast from 1990 to 1995 before he went on to become a massive movie star, so it isn’t surprising that he still watches the show. When asked on Late Night with Seth Meyers when he knew Bad Bunny was the right person to cast as his caddie in Happy Gilmore 2, Sandler said, “I saw him on Saturday Night Live.” Turning to Bad Bunny, he added, “When I saw you on Saturday Night Live, I was like, ‘He’s funnier than me?’ How did that happen?”
Bad Bunny has spent a fair amount of time on SNL over the years. He’s been their musical guest three times and has even hosted the show once, so he had plenty of chances to showcase his comedy chops to Adam Sandler. Now the two will be hitting the links together on Netflix as Happy Gilmore 2 returns, almost 30 years after the original film was in cinemas.
Happy Gilmore 2 is out on Netflix on July 25, 2025.
