We almost saw the Young Avengers in the MCU, but Kang stuff changed everything

We nearly had a payoff for all the Young Avengers teases before The Kang Dynasty became Doomsday.

One of the biggest unresolved plot threads in the MCU is the potential of the Young Avengers. The team was teased in the end credits scene of 2023’s The Marvels, but hasn’t been mentioned in any production or promotional material since. However, it looks like Marvel Studios did have a plan to use the team at one point in the since-revamped Avengers: The Kang Dynasty film before it became Avengers: Doomsday.

During a Reddit AMA, Michael Waldron, the writer of Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, spoke about some of what he had planned for The Kang Dynasty before it was morphed into Avengers: Doomsday. He revealed that he had hoped to have the Young Avengers appear in the movie.

“Jeff Loveness and I spent an afternoon pitching on the Young Avengers defeating a version of Kang and being so stoked about it… only to discover that that particular Kang carried a little card that said Be Patient with him, it was his first day as a Kang. And then they were so bummed," he wrote. "I think he was gonna be the lizard Kang from the end of Kang Dynasty? I don’t know. Anyway we had fun.”

It is interesting that Marvel Studios hasn’t completely forgotten about the tease of Young Avengers, especially since we’ve already seen at least three potential members of the team. Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop were both seen at the end of The Marvels, and Wiccan was revealed at the end of Agatha All Along. (It's worth remembering that there's another potential member showing up in Visionquest in 2026.)

Who else could have joined the Young Avengers in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is still unknown, nor does it seem likely that any of them will show up in the increasingly full Avengers: Doomsday next year... although, given everyone else seems to be appearing in the movie, who knows?

Avengers: Doomsday is in theaters December 18, 2026.
