How Spider-Man 3 inspired Bryce Dallas Howard to join the cast of Jurassic World, years later

2007's Spider-Man 3 is a fascinating little movie. Of course, everyone remembers the really weird dance number that Emo Peter Parker does, but one thing that my brain hasn't recovered from all these years later is the teeth that were sprouting from Topher Grace's head when Eddie Brock got Venomized. Nothing else changed on his face except for his teeth. Who knew getting infected by the Venom symbiote was a surefire way to acquire a snaggletooth? My childhood orthodontist's worst nightmare, I would imagine.
Anyways, let's also remember that Spider-Man 3 marked the debut of Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy! Howard now has carved out her own career path as a director on Star Wars projects like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, but Spider-Man 3 marked a turning point in her career as a young actress. At Los Angeles Comic Con 2025, Howard spoke about the experience of working on Spider-Man 3, and how the energy of Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire, and Kirsten Dunst inspired her to later lead the Jurassic World franchise.
Howard said, "[The cast and crew's] enthusiasm and their collective focus on creating something that delivered for audiences really inspired me. And I just at that point, I was like, 'I'm just going to make it my mission to try to be in Movie 1 of a franchise.'"
She achieved that ambition with the role as Claire Dearing in Jurassic World, which came out in 2015, and spawned a trilogy of its own - although, as she admitted, "It wasn't Movie 1, it was Jurassic Park 4, technically." We'll not hold that against her, though: after all, Jurassic World kickstarted the Jurassic franchise back to life after more than a decade of inactivity, and spawned not just movie sequels, but the animated Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory shows, as well. It basically counts as a Movie 1.
Jurassic World (and its sequels) are streaming on Peacock.
