It's time to pick up your swords, because King Conan is coming from Arnold Schwarzenegger and director Christopher McQuarrie.
At Arnold Sports Festival over the weekend, Schwarzenegger confirmed that a third Conan the Barbarian film is on the way (as per The Hollywood Reporter).
“It’s a great story where Conan was 40 years king and he gets complacent, and now he gets forced out of the kingdom, slowly. Then there’s conflict, of course, and then he somehow comes back, and then there’s all kinds of madness and violence and magic and creatures. Now, of course, you have all the special effects, and the studio system has plenty of money to make those movies really big. So I’m looking forward to all of those projects," Schwarzenegger said, referring also to a role he's in the talks with Predator: Badlands writer-director Dan Trachtenberg for, and a script he received for Commando 2.
Christopher McQuarrie, of course, is the Academy Award-winning screenwriter behind The Usual Suspects and the writer-director of the masterpiece that is Mission: Impossible - Fallout. In other words, McQuarrie knows how to write and direct the hell out of an action sequence (remember when Henry Cavill charged up his punches in Fallout? Absolute Cinema), and I can't wait to see what he comes up with for King Conan.
Last year, I had a bit of a Schwarzenegger Summer from watching The Running Man, Total Recall, Predator, and the Conan movies. If the projects that Schwarzenegger mentioned do come to fruition, perhaps we'll all be set to have a Schwarzenegger Summer in the next couple of years.
