The first teaser for the upcoming Clayface movie from DC Studios is here, and you're going to want to hold yourself together, literally.
The film, directed by James Watkins (2024's Speak No Evil), follows a young actor named Matt Hagen whose face is disfigured, leading him to become a "revenge-filled monster in a story that explores the loss of one’s identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition." Fans of Batman comics and the Batman: The Animated Series show are familiar with the sympathetic monster type that Clayface is. And based on the teaser, DC Studios is leaning hard into the "monster" element of the character. Check it out below.
The teaser features an absolutely diabolical use of the song "Do You Realize??" by The Flaming Lips, spotlighting the lyrics, "Do you realize that you have the most beautiful face?" It's used to a disturbing effect, given that this is a movie about Clayface. In the teaser, the camera pushes in on a heavily bandaged Matt Hagen, played by Tom Rhys Harries, as he stares out from his hospital bed. The unsettling shot is intercut with glimpses of Hagen at his most beautiful and at his most monstrous. It's also worth noting that we get a glimpse of the Gotham neighborhood called The Narrows, a rough part of town that former Robin Jason Todd is from. Batman should start keeping an eye out for the wheels on the Batmobile.
Clayface is expected to hit theaters this October, joining a busy spooky season for cinemas with the release of Zach Cregger's Resident Evil movie just a few weeks before. Horror fans, we'll be eating well.
