DC Studios' aborted Sgt. Rock movie is "really, really good" and "should be made" says presumptive star Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell has no idea what’s going on with DC Studios’ Sgt. Rock movie, but he hopes it will still be made one day

If you’re wondering about the status of DC Studios’ Sgt. Rock movie, you’re not alone. Colin Farrell, who at one point was in talks to play the title character, is also wondering about the World War II era film. “God, that was a fantastic script. I wonder what’s happening with it,” Colin Farrell says during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

On November 20, 2024, Deadline reported that DC Studios was developing a film based on the fictional wartime hero. Originally, Daniel Craig was reportedly in talks to play Franklin Rock, but the actor reportedly dropped out of the project in early 2025. It was then reported that Ferrall was set to take over the role, but the project has been on the back burner. At one point, Luca Guadagnino was set to direct, but he’s no longer involved with the film either.

“I know nothing about it, brother," said Farrell, who previously co-starred in the war movie Tigerland. "I was going to do it with Luca, and we spoke a couple of times, had some really nice chats, but I have no idea where it is now. But it should be made. It is really, really good. There’s some wonderful stuff in it.”

That sounds promising. Hopefully Sgt. Rock gets his chance at cinematic greatness.
