The intro sequence for Supergirl had to be cut down because Kara was getting too drunk

DC Studios was nervous about how much partying Kara was doing during the Supergirl intro

If there’s one thing you can say about the DC Studios version of Supergirl, it’s that she knows how to party. When we first meet Kara in Superman she’s returning from a week of getting drunk and partying on red sun planets. In Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl, in theaters now, we get to see some of that partying, and it gets a bit wild. The intro sequence for the DC Studios film has a montage of Kara partying hard in various intergalactic locales.

It turns out we’re seeing the toned-down version. According to Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl in the film, the original version she shot went a bit too far with the partying, which made some people nervous.

“She has a shot of anything,” Milly Alcock revealed during a conversation with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “That sequence was actually a lot longer and I was just kind of dragging shit and drinking it. But they cut it because I think they were like, 'She’s too drunk. This is bad. I mean, she’s getting hammered here.'”

Alcock doesn’t say if it was Gillespie, DC Studios, or another party who was nervous. Either way, considering how much drinking Kara did in the theatrical release, it’s hard to believe this was the toned-down version. Maybe we can see the “getting hammered cut” one day, or at least the deleted footage as a DVD extra.

Supergirl is in theaters now.
