Tom Cruise's new film trailer knows how to get you interested: remind you how much you love Tom Cruise
The teaser trailer for Digger spends more time celebrating Tom Cruise than telling us anything about the movie.

For decades, Tom Cruise has been one of the biggest Hollywood stars, and that fact is not lost on whoever made the trailer for his new movie. Rather than tell you anything about Digger, the upcoming black comedy starring Cruise and directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the first teaser trailer spends two-and-a-half minutes cutting together clips of Tom Cruise classics. Because they know what is going to get people into the cinema to see it.
To be fair, Tom Cruise’s career is an easy one to celebrate; the man has managed to remain Hollywood royalty since the 1980s and has delivered performances that have been iconic, dramatic, and intense. The teaser trailer for Digger, which was first shown at CinemaCon 2026 and got released online in late June, feels more like a celebration of those performances than a promotion for his new movie.
The teaser trailer for Digger is just over three minutes long, but it isn’t until two-and-a-half minutes into it that any footage from the film is actually shown. Everything up to that point is a highlight reel of Tom Cruise’s biggest hits. Having not known anything about Digger before, I genuinely thought this was a trailer for a biopic or some other career retrospective about Tom Cruise rather than a movie starring Tom Cruise. While I get why they’re excited that Tom Cruise is starring in their movie, it is still a jarring experience to sit through.
A proper trailer, potentially with more than a history of Tom Cruise’s (admittedly very impressive) filmography, is reportedly out in July. Digger is out on October 2, 2026.
