A Dirty Harry movie remake would be a good idea given the world right now, says Warner Bros. bosses
Warner Bros. has no plans for a Dirty Harry remake, but they’re open to the idea, saying the political climate is right

If there’s one thing Hollywood likes, it’s remakes. The past year has given us Snow White, Running Man, Lilo & Stitch, and How to Train Your Dragon, among others. And that’s just the year so far.
With Hollywood’s obsession with remakes, could a new Dirty Harry be far behind? WB execs said the idea hadn’t crossed their mind, but as they discussed it, they slowly began to realize the political climate was ripe for a new version.
“Dirty Harry, I feel like it's of its era,” Warner Bros. co-chair Mike De Luca says during a Substack discussion with Franklin Leonard. “It's such a classic, and we tread cautiously around the revered classics. I think it's great when you find a hidden gem that was done well, but wasn't done so well, and is a little bit of its time where you could improve on it.”
“That movie was such an answer to the way people were feeling post-Manson killings, and post-Vietnam, and post-Watergate, where they felt no systems are working, everything is letting us down. Will there be no one to carry for us and keep us safe? Actually, it's perfect for today. What am I talking about? It sounds like it's tailor made for today.”
“We need Harry more than ever,” WB co-hair Pam Abdy adds. “So, I change that to a maybe,” De Luca concludes.
This was purely a hypothetical discussion, and at the moment there are no plans for a Dirty Harry movie. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if this conversation inspires development of a new movie.
