The Russo Brothers are best known for directing films for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, and they aren't done collaborating with Marvel Studios talent just yet. Their upcoming film, The Electric State, features a reunion of MCU talent both in front of and behind the camera. Clearly, for the Russos, working within the MCU provided a solid foundation for long-lasting collaborative ties.
The Electric State is an adaptation of Simon Stålenhag's dystopian sci-fi novel of the same title. It is centered on the journey that a teenage girl and her robot take across the United States to look for her younger brother. While the premise for the story is simple, Stålenhag's novel is gorgeously illustrated with drawings of massive robots that are now part of the landscape in the Western United States.
The cast of The Electric State film includes actors like Anthony Mackie and Chris Pratt, who the Russo Brothers worked with on films like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Infinity War. Additionally, the film was written by screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who wrote all the MCU films that the Russo Brothers directed.
This isn't the first time that the Russo Brothers have worked with talent from previous projects. Before the directors joined the MCU, they directed several episodes of the show Community. Actors from Community like Danny Pudi, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, and Yvette Nicole Brown have all made cameos in MCU films directed by the Russo Brothers. These cameos have been a wonderful way for the Russos to honor their roots in television directing. They also highlight the talent of Community's cast, who all give memorable performances in their cameos.
