Waitaminute, was Brad Pitt supposed to star in Gran Turismo? F1 director Joseph Kosinski might've just let that slip
Kosinski says he and Pitt had developed "a racing movie" a decade ago, which is the exact time Kosinski was in talks to direct the project that would eventually see Neill Blomkamp in the chair

As of June 27, Joseph Kosinski's F1: The Movie is in theaters across the US. But the film, which stars Brad Pitt as a veteran driver in search of redemption and Damson Idris as a newcomer trying to make his mark, is not the first time that Top Gun: Maverick director Kosinski has spent creative effort on a Formula One racing movie. All the way back in 2015, the director was working on the film that would become 2023's Gran Turismo, and in a recent interview, Kosinski might have accidentally shared a behind-the-scenes secret that could change how fans see that film.
That is, that F1 star Pitt was also involved in developing it.
The interview in question is one that Kosinski did with GQ, published June 23. In it, Kosinski is asked about getting an A-lister involved to carry his 2025 F1 film, and the director explains why that star ended up being Brad Pitt.
"This is an original story with new characters," says the director, "So you need an icon at the centre of it. There's Brad [Pitt], there's Tom [Cruise], there's Leo [DiCaprio], essentially. I'd always wanted to work with Brad, and I knew he loved racing because I developed a racing movie with him ten years ago."
Hold on - you developed what with him ten years ago? Please let us know if we're wrong, but the only racing movie that Joseph Kosinski was working on in 2015 was Gran Turismo, as The Hollywood Reporter told us that same year. Of course, it's possible that there was yet another movie being discussed between Pitt and Kosinski, and Brad Pitt's name appears absolutely nowhere in the Gran Turismo credits.
Still, it makes you wonder, doesn't it?

F1: The Movie is in theaters now. Gran Turismo is streaming on Hulu.
