The Fast & the Furious is heading home for it final lap, says Vin Diesel: "It's a gift"
That the Fast & Furious franchise's final film, Fast Forever, is headed back to LA is an effort to "close it out right," says star Vin Diesel

The Fast & Furious franchise is all about family, but as it crosses the line for its final lap, it's also all about home.
That home is Los Angeles, the setting for both the first film and according to star Vin Diesel, the last. Writing in a recent social media post, the Dom Toretto actor and face of the franchise says that with the movie's final flick, the 2028 project Fast Forever, the setting is a conscious effort to end the saga that began in 2001 in the best way possible.
The post in question appeared on Diesel's personal Instagram, on which the action star opened up about the responsibility he and the creative team were feeling as the franchise heads for the finish line.
"There is a particular weight that comes with delivering a finale," wrote Diesel on March 19, "A responsibility you feel in your chest, to everyone who gave something to get here, to the audience that stayed. You don't take that lightly. You take it as fuel."
"And when you find out you're going back to Los Angeles," he continued, "Back to the streets where it all began, something clicks into place. The city that made the first film feel alive, still here, still holding. Coming home to close it out right. That's not logistics. That's a gift."
What Diesel doesn't say, though some readers of the post undoubtedly are thinking, is that returning to Los Angeles is hopefully not only a way to conclude the high-octane saga, but to restore its glory for the 'one last job.' Despite the hype, remember, 2023's Fast X underperformed at the box office and with critics, and later reports of budget conflicts further tarnished what fans presumably wanted to be the ultimate in penultimate chapters. Could a return to LA be what the Fast saga needs to get back in gear?
We'll find out when Fast Forever drops March 17, 2028.
