Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 star Matthew Lillard says the sequel will have more jump scares and more lore - because that's what fans wanted

Matthew Lillard says that FNAF 2 will have more jump scares and more lore than the first film

The first Five Nights at Freddy’s film was great, but Matthew Lillard thinks the new one will be even better. The actor, who plays William Afton in the horror franchise, says that Blumhouse Productions listened to the fans after the first film was released, and incorporated some of their notes for the sequel.

“You guys like the lore, right?” Lillard asks during a New York Comic Con panel. As you can imagine, the crowd responded by cheering. “Let me ask you a question: would you like more jump scares?” Once again, Lillard’s question was met with enthusiastic cheers.

“Would you like it to be scarier in general?” Lillard continues. The audience erupted with excitement. “We did that,” Lillard says after the crowd calmed down.

“I think the first movie is fantastic. Obviously worldwide monster hit. The second movie, Emma [Tammi, the movie's director], Scott [Cawthon, FNAF creator and movie screenwriter], and Jason [Blum, producer] did a great job of listening to what you want. And I believe they delivered. That’s my favorite part.”

Fans can judge for themselves, when Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 hits theaters on December 5, 2025.
