Ghost Rider gets official release date as Marvel firms up its post-Secret Wars MCU
2028 marks an important year for Marvel Studios, with three MCU movies coming without Spider-Man or Avengers in the title

Marvel Studios came into San Diego Comic-Con 2026 with a clear message: even beyond Avengers: Secret Wars, they have plenty of movies planned. One of the biggest announcements of the weekend was Ryan Gosling putting on the flaming skull of Ghost Rider. Now, Marvel has confirmed the release date for the MCU’s Ghost Rider movie, and it sets the stage for an important 2028.
At D23 over the weekend, Disney and Marvel Studios confirmed that Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider movie has a July 28, 2028 release date. As of yet, the movie has no official synopsis, but there is still plenty of time for director Shawn Levy and Gosling to prove there is still plenty of magic in the MCU tank. We just hope they make Ghost Rider as scary as possible.
This makes Ghost Rider the third MCU movie slated to release in 2028; Black Panther 3 is out on December 15, 208 and the long-awaited MCU X-Men movie will be out on May 5, 2028.
All of these movies will follow on from 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, which, if it is anything like the comic book storyline it is based on, will condense the many Marvel universes into one world.
It has been a rough run for Marvel over the past few years. All three of their films in 2025 failed to light up the box office. 2026 has already been brighter, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day already earning $2 billion worldwide and Avengers: Doomsday likely to do the same in December. What Marvel needs is a steady stream of hits with movies that don’t include Avengers or Spider-Man in the title, which is what makes 2028 such an important year for them.
